Winter Fun - Fun ideas on things to do in Central Oregon

Follow our recommended day planner to maximize your vacation time in the winter wonderland we call Sunriver!

Day 1: POWDER RUNS
You’re never too old or too young to play in the snow!

Start the chilly Central Oregon morning off right with a warm latte or hot chocolate along with fresh baked pasteries, donuts and breads from Hot Lava Baking Company located in the Sunriver Village Mall. Their donuts are the largest you've ever seen! Delicious breads are baked daily and they have a delightful selection of homemade desserts and deli sandwiches. **Sunset Perks

Mt. Bachelor has 71 runs, 3600+ ski-able acres with an average snowfall of 370 inches and boasts the driest powder in all of the Northwest. Skiing, boarding, tubing and groomed cross country trails are available from mid-November through Memorial weekend. **Sunset Perks

Sled the “Sledder’s Hill” in Sunriver near the community church or head directly east of Sunriver (across highway 97, down the gravel road. 4WD recommended) to more sledding & snow play locations

Catch snowflakes on your tongue, bone up on the art of making snow angels, skate hand-in-hand at the Village Mall ice rink to familiar tunes, guzzle hot cocoa—or hot totties--by the fire while playing a game of cards…it’s winter in Sunriver and there are endless possibilities for winter fun outside or in!

DAY 2: SHOE AWAY
Strap on a pair of snowshoes and find your way to all sorts of interesting places.

Wanderlust Tours offers guided snowshoe adventures for the entire family through serene wooded forests. There’s even an opportunity to race your brother or sister down a snow covered slope and see who falls first! **Sunset Perks

Snowshoe on your own—take off at any of the area snow park trails like Water Tower Loop

Shoe the rim of Crater Lake National Park. The bright blue lake against the white snow view is absolutely amazing—a must see sight.

DAY 3: TAKE A HIKE
These areas remain snow-free most of the winter, so they’re ideal activities when you’ve had it just about up to here with snow.

GPS Eco Challenges by Wanderlust Tours offer small or large groups an adventure on the sage and grass-covered land of the High Desert while you find your way from point to point through fun clues with your GPS (global positioning system) skills. Search through forest, rock outcrops, and cool caves – all under the backdrop of the mountain vistas.Your treasure awaits you at the end – a Wanderlust Tours gift for all! Pilot Butte Park in Bend offers a panoramic view from the top! You can walk up the trail or the paved road. This is a nice, quick walk to end or start your day and watch the sun set or rise.

Smith Rock State Park has easy-going trails to very difficult make-your-legs-wobbly and sore trails to explore on a cool winter day. The sun is usually shining at Smith Rock!

Fort Rock area is great for exploring. The huge circular rock formation is a must-see and you can’t forget to visit the Hole-in-the-Ground, which was often mistaken for a meteor crater. The Hole is 1 mile across and 425 feet deep!

With all the hiking you've done, you will have worked up quite an appetite. Make reservations to get some of the best Sushi in Central Oregon. Sushimotos Asian Bistro, Wine and Cocktail Bar have had Bend residents and visitors making the drive to Sunriver for their scrumptous asian cusine. This place is popular--reservations recommended 541.593.2200 **Sunset Perks
